Review Summary:
Let’s look inside
Dragon Guest House has been around for years serving budget travelers to Boudhanath many a nights stay. It’s located behind Shechen Monastery it’s less than 5 minutes walk from the fabled Boudha stupa.
The guest house is run by Lama Angkiel of Muktinath along with his family. The family live in the guest house along with some long-term guests that often include people studying buddhism, meditation or yoga.
There’s a small shaded garden outside where you can sit and eat from the vegetarian menu selection or simply let the day pass with a good book.
Rooms & staff
The rooms at the Dragon Guest House are basic but clean. Shared and attached bathrooms are available so do check them out. Rooms with views over the garden offer something brighter than most. Noise from the neighbourhood dogs at night is a real problem though. Bring ear plugs.
Expect hot water only during the day (late afternoon is best).
Summary
You can’t really beat the price at Dragon Guest House. Couple that with the location, cleanliness, free wifi, and friendliness to tick many of the requirements on a budget travelers list. Due to it’s price and location it’s often booked out during the peak season. So do call ahead!
Room prices I was quoted
There are off season and peak season rates here. Peak season can see rooms go up to USD $10 but it depends on how busy it gets. Off season rates can be under USD $4 with some bargaining. Long term rates are also available.
