Lumpiang Shanghai from the Philippines

Another Chinese / Asian influenced dish with a Filipino twist. Lumpiang Shanghai is a variation of a spring roll. Thin filo style pastry wrapped around pork or beef with some carrot, onion and green bean.

To be honest the most common place I found Lumpiang Shanghai was in Chow King (fast food) and in lower mid class and up style eateries. I never found it on the street stands. It is however very popular at people’s homes and at fiestas.

They are usually served in threes and are about 3 inches long. Crunchy, meaty and tasty. The cost varies greatly, but in a 30 pesos for 3 is about average.
