Happiness Guest House which is located right in front of the stupa in Boudhanth. It’s a unique guest house in that there are only four well spaced rooms on offer here. They have a sister guest house “Happiness Guest 1” which has been reviewed here.
The three floor yellow building has a narrow entrance with a small reception on the ground floor. They offer a small cozy restaurant, free Wi-Fi and water on arrival. Small things like this matter. Happiness gets it right here.
Even with it’s size Happiness can be quite a social guest house due to the restaurant.
A good place to meet people and exchange information. There’s a battery back up system in case of power outages which Nepal does suffer from.
Rooms & staff
With just four rooms Happiness guest houses rooms are of good size. The decor is typical for Nepal with and nothing to write home about. However the rooms are clean and well kept.
Bathrooms too deserve a mention as they are also well kept and clean. Some renovation seems to have brought them up to modern(ish) standards.
The room views are exceptional with great views over the stupa outside. Though light sleepers might find the early morning noise outside a bit much.
The staff are friendly and very helpful in this small guesthouse. Again something to consider if you are looking for that extra bit of attention.
Summary
Happiness Guest House offers a great location, well kept rooms and helpful staff. Is it worth the asking price? Maybe not if you consider nearby offerings and standards. However Happiness excels in having a lower occupancy and thus more attention is given to guests.
