Journeys: Point2Point - the real start

Sintra, Portugal to Shanghai, China Overland

This was the real deal.

My route was as follows:

Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Poland, (Slovakia), Hungary, Romania, (Bulgaria) Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Tibet, China.

To summarize the whole trip: A journey of a lifetime, that's still ongoing.

My time in Europe was spent looking at the possibilities of finding a home there. Meeting old friends and maturing a lot as a traveler. Not to mention coming to the realization that finding a home is not that easy!

Heading south to Turkey I battled for my elusive visas. . . and won the war, only to find out Turkey was going to war against the Kurds, Iran was being threaten with possible invasion, and Pakistan had just declared Emergency rule. Lovely!

India was a fleeting visit that was more enjoyable than I thought it could have been.

Nepal was truly one of the greatest highlights, the himalayas, the people, the food, the music. And yes, the riots.

On to the roof of the world in Tibet and all hell broke loose as I found myself in Lhasa on March 14th 2008 in the middle of the second uprising. A burning hotel, riots, the chinese army and a great adventure.

China brought with it the conclusion of this overland trip. My precious riot photo's had me worried at ever checkpoint. But I did manage to see the Lost Pyramids and reach Shanghai...
