The Golden temples proper name is Hiranyavarna Mahaviharain. Located north of Patan's durbar square it's one of the cities main attractions.
The Golden temple is in fact a Newari Buddhist Monastery. There's a small room upstairs where monks pray. Meanwhile in the center courtyard there are probably more artifacts on show than any other courtyard in Nepal.
Two shrines are filled with precious statues, gems and other items that a historian would consider a treasure trove of study. It's certainly worth the short walk from Patan Durbar square to visit the Golden temple.
