Inside the Mayadevi temple (Lumbini Temple) in Lumbini Nepal are the ruins of at least one other temple that stood over the spot Buddha was born. Mayadevi was said to have given birth on the exact spot where you can see people gathering and looking down.
The original complex was discovered by archaeologists in 1895 when the Ashoka Pillar was re-discovered. The current temple was opened on 16th May, 2003.
