This woman is praying to wish away her bad deeds while paying respect to Buddha. After her short prayer she will set the Krathong (decorative float) into the river where it will float away. Behind her in the photograph is a young girl helping people set their lanterns afloat.
Loi Krathong in northern Thailand coincides with the Lanna celebration known as Yee Peng. Thousands of decorative floats are set into the river every year over a three day festival event.
