Khukuri knives are used by Nepalese Gurka soldiers both nationally and internationally. The Khukuri knife is also used by hunters, rural workers and farmers. The knives are noted for having a curved blade which creates a slicing effect. They are also known as khukr, kukri or Gurka knives.
The knives in this photograph are produced for the tourist market. While fully functional they are a lot more elaborate than locally used knives. A Khukuri knife comes with two small attachments. One is a smaller blade (pocket knife) and the other is a flint to sharpen the blades.
