Thangka paintings are traditional Buddhist cultural paintings that originated in Nepal. Thangkas can be known locally as "Thankas". They usually depict a Buddhist deity, scene or mandala.
Thangkas are created from a picture panel which is painted or embroidered over, either singly or in thin layers. The embroidery is usually done in silk. Due to this Thangkas can last a long time but should be considered very delicate. This also means the cost of genuine thangka can be quite high. Do watch out for cheap imitations!
