The reclining buddha is 15 meters tall by 46 metres long and covered in gold plating. The soles of the buddha's feet are ornately decortated with mother of pearl. The soles are seperated into 108 sections, showing various symbols by which Buddha can be identified with eg like white elephants, flowers and dancers.
The reclining buddha is housed in a building at Wat Pho in Bangkok Thailand. Surrounding the statue are 108 bronze bowls which indicate the 108 auspicious characters of Buddha. Visitors are welcome to place coins into each bowl which is said to grant good fortune.
