A blossoming handicraft industry in Nepal today is puppet making. From wood carved puppets to glove and finger puppets to paper and string puppets you'll have many to choose from. Most puppets today are colorfully dressed, painted by hand and often come with little ornaments or jewelry.
The best place to find traditionally made puppets in Nepal is in Bhaktapur city. Local artists can be found in the back of side street stores where they are put on display. Papier-mâché faces are often used for some puppets so do handle them with care.
