Chyasalin Mandap is a beautiful pavilion located on the eastern side of Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Originally built in the 17th century it was completely destroyed in the 1934 earthquake. It was restored in late 1980's and finished in 1990.
The pavilion was originally built to deflect a powerful force from the nearby Shiva temple. Later it was used by the Malla kings as a meeting place to discuss affairs of the state and the arts. A poetry contest in recorded here on a stone plinth to the pavilions side.
