An old man with a smile in Bhaktapur NepalBhaktapur is probably my favourite old city in Nepal. It lacks the pollution and traffic congestion of Kathmandu and is filled with temples and little streets. Perhaps it’s biggest draw are the people that live in the old town. They are brimming with character. The story behind this photographI saw this man across the street as I was leaving Bhaktapur Durbar Square. He was sitting in a rest house with his friends. While I had no problem taking a photograph I wondered what his reaction would be. He was smoking a cigarette as I approached. The wisps of smoke added to the photographs. But as I looked on them later I choose this one. Sans cigarette smoke. I think his face is wonderful as it is. In my latest trip to Nepal I saw this man again. I was a colder day. He wasn’t at the rest house. He was sitting on a street. He looked older. Sleepy. He gazed over at the rest house but there was no one there. I left him be. I’m just another tourist. Another face he wouldn’t remember.
