Trekking in Nepal guidebook

The best guidebook for first time trekkers in Nepal ( February 2024)

You might have seen quite a few new books from me over the past few days, including my new Trekking in Nepal guidebook. I keep all my guidebooks up to date so you can get this best. In fact, my Trekking in Nepal book actually started over ten years ago as the guidebook First Time Trekking in Nepal. An 80 page digital guidebook with the most popular treks in Nepal. That book is still here, and still great. It is so popular it actually became part of the full Nepal guidebook and remains an independant book in its own right. It’s specially written for First time trekkers in Nepal and for those who were only going to that one big popular trek. That’s why it was included in the main Nepal guidebook! I wanted people to get what no other guidebook offered. Mission accomplished! Now we move on the ultimate trekking book.

The feedback and reviews about my guidebooks have been overwhelmingly positive – this updated digital edition First Time Trekking in Nepal guidebook remains popular with many trekkers visiting Nepal for the first time. It covers the most popular treks in the country, preparation, budgets, and how to find a guide. If you are dedicated trekker, then there’s the Trekking in Nepal guidebook. But if you are going for the first time to one of the popular big treks in Nepal, then this First Time Trekking in Nepal guidebook is perfect for you.

Many first time trekkers save the bigger more remote treks for next their next visit and go for first time treks like Everest Base Camp, or the Annapurna Circuit. That’s what this book provides! Annapurna Base Camp guide chapter

This book was my first original undertaking in regards to putting together teams of guides, trekkers, porters and myself who have all got to go out to obtain, review and write the latest information in Nepal.  And just like all my other books,  these are the only guidebooks with active local teams constantly monitoring trek conditions throughout the year!

Written for trekkers by a trekker to get the most out of your first trek. Fully updated with the most popular treks for 2024 with extensive preparation chapters, the new mandatory trekking guide rule, how and where to find a guide, when to go, plus complete treks written with a day-to-day walk-through including photographs and maps to show you the way. All 100% original. All presented in 80 pages in an easy to read digital format for your phone, tablet, laptop and you can even print off just the trek you are going on.

For those viewing on a digital device it’s also the first of my trekking books ever to include scaleable maps. This means you can zoom right in on your route.

Why is this guidebook to first time trekking in Nepal better than any other?

Trekking in Nepal is one of the country’s main attractions. There have been countless guidebooks written about trekking in Nepal’s mountains. This guidebook is the most up-to-date in the world & dedicated to first time trekkers.

Most guidebooks write blurbs about a trail telling you what lies ahead and how it looks like with the expectation that you already know the trek, the route, and indeed Nepal. This guidebook actually tells you where you are, what’s really ahead and shows you a photograph from everyday on the trek – so you really can see what to expect!

Maps have been the downfall of many trekking guidebooks. When I started this book I wanted to make things better! It was a big project, that would soon lead to a bigger book. All the maps in this book were created using GPS waypoints, real time local trekking guides, trekkers along with me in groups and as individuals. Once again, the maps in this book are scalable – meaning you can zoom right in!

These are just some of the things that current guidebooks fail to realise when it comes to first time trekkers. They are written like you should know about a trek and trekking already. This guidebook is written specifically for those who have never gone trekking in Nepal before. If you’ve been trekking in Nepal before, or want more treks or details, then it’s time to hop over to this books bigger sibling Trekking in Nepal.

To reiterate: other trekking books are woefully out of date. Keep in mind that in 2015 Nepal was rocked by a huge earthquake. There were still landslides on the Manaslu trek in 2016, Langtang trekkers were going missing in late 2017. There were increases in trekking fees during 2018 and 2024. In 2023 Nepal introduced mandatory trekkings guides, banned solo trekking, and introduced fines. This book remained updated throughout! Langtang is now back in popular demand with no landslide issues and Manaslu is becoming a popular alternative to the Annapurna Circuit. Mandatory trekking guides are now a legal requirement in Nepal but not everywhere, I’ll show you where you can trek without a guide.  I’ve been there through all this, and I’ve kept this book updated throughout.

The simple fact is big branded guidebooks don’t have the funding or inclination to send freelancer writers out every year so they do it every 5 or so years for one or two treks only. That’s the blunt truth. I’m the opposite. I’m in Nepal. So are my team. We keep things updated. You really can’t get better than that!

This is your trek of a lifetime and you deserve the best. Why settle for a cookie cutter corporate book only interested in profit when you could have a book that was written and created specially for you to show you the best treks in Nepal.

This is a completely independent guidebook that was written by a trekker for first time trekkers. This is not a book with what a company thinks it can cram into a cookie cutter style book to make the most money from. My guidebook to first time trekking in Nepal brings you the most popular treks for first timers in Nepal and helps you to make the most out of them.

I’m independent. I, personally, enjoy trekking in Nepal. I’ve written entire guidebooks about the country, about it’s heritage, and an entire book dedicated to all the treks. However, I also know that information overload is also a thing. So, I’m keeping First Time Trekking in Nepal with pride for first time trekkers in mind!

The feedback to my First Time Trekking guidebook has been overwhelmingly positive over the years:

Everest Base Camp trek guidebook mapI’ve written every page, gone on every trek, mapped every trek, photographed each day and made every page in this book myself – it is 100% original. The photos on this page show you they style and what to expect.

The feedback proves it was worth it for trekkers

Every trek can be a challenge. It’s made even more so by Nepal’s five seasons (yes five!). Winter is often written off, but that’s not always the case these days. Yes, early monsoon rains have changed many treks in to washouts.  I write about them all. I let you know when to go on what trek without being disappointed.

I’ve personally been on all of these treks, you are getting trekking information straight from the source for each and every trek

Since the pandemic many trekking companies have been short on business and will do or say anything to get a client. The same goes for these big online trekking companies booking treks. They’ll bundle you into a group with other people, short change you on accommodation or meals, and always have an extra fee somewhere. In this book I explain about how to find good trekking company, avoid being cheated, the pros and cons of both, and each trekking company listed in the book is local – meaning if you hire them, you’ll know exactly where your money is going.

All the maps in this book have been updated with GPS data and include any issues with landslides or seasonal changes

Nepal has five seasons, including a two rainy seasons and a cold winter seasons. It means the landscape, trails and trek routes will have small changes to them every year. This book is updated to help you know the right route. The trekking agencies listed in the book are all local and also know the routes.

I don’t and have never accepted sponsored treks, hotel stays, meals or tours. Everything I write about I pay for everything myself so you the reader can get the most honest reviews.

You’ll enjoy this book and you’ll learn about First Time Trekking in Nepal

If you’ve been following me along here over the past 15 years then you know I write honestly and at times bluntly. If I don’t think something is worth it, I tell it like it is. If I think something is worth the extra day of trekking to see, I’ll let you know. This book will help prepare you for all things first time trekkers in Nepal should know.

I’ve also listened to feedback from readers and trekkers meaning this book has constantly improved.  I’ve brought you the best free Nepal guides online. I’ve put all this together, expanded it, improved it, and rewritten it into the best of my Nepal guidebooks.

This book is a great inexpensive way to learn about First Time Trekking in Nepal
